ดัชนีคุณภาพน้ำแหล่งน้ำผิวดินของจังหวัด หมายถึง การประเมินคุณภาพน้ำแหล่งน้ำผิวดิน โดยคำนวณจาก 5 พารามิเตอร์ ได้แก่ ปริมาณออกซิเจนที่ละลายในน้ำ (Dissolved Oxygen : DO) ความสกปรกในรูปสารอินทรีย์ (Biochemical Oxygen Demand : BOD) แบคทีเรียกลุ่มโคลิฟอร์มทั้งหมด (Total Coliform Bacteria : TCB) แบคทีเรียกลุ่มฟีคัลโคลิฟอร์ม (Fecal Coliform Bacteria : FCB) และแอมโมเนีย (Total Ammonia : NH3) มีคะแนนอยู่ระหว่าง 0-100 โดยเกณฑ์คุณภาพน้ำ “ดีมาก” มีคะแนน 91-100 “ดี” มีคะแนน 71-90 “พอใช้” มีคะแนน 61-70 “เสื่อมโทรม” มีคะแนน 31-60 และ “เสื่อมโทรมมาก” มีคะแนน 0-30
