universal design หมายถึง หลักการออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมให้กับคนทุกๆกลุ่ม ไม่ว่าจะเป็นผู้สูงอายุ (Older people) คนปกติ ผู้พิการ (people with disabilities) เป็นการทำให้ไม่มีอุปสรรค (Barrier-free) ในการใช้งาน สร้างความเท่าเทียมกันในการเข้าถึงพื้นที่การให้บริการ การออกแบบเพื่อให้ทุกคนได้เข้าถึงอย่างเท่าเทียม ถือเป็นหลักการที่พัฒนาพื้นที่ให้สังคมมีคุณภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น โดยไม่ทิ้งใครไว้ข้างหลัง
